7 Night West Coast Tour- Port Appin, Fort William, Eilean Donan, Wester Ross, Inverness and Perthshire


Day 1

From Four Seasons Campers head west towards Balloch and take the A82 north on the West side of Loch Lomond then head west along the A85 at Tyndrum towards Dalmally before heading onto Oban.

Things to see and do

  • Stop at pretty village of Luss on Loch Lomond
  • Get last minute suppliers at Green Welly Stop at Tyndrum
  • Enjoy ‘healthy’ fish and chips from The Real Food Café in Tyndrum
  • Visit Kilchurn Castle
  • Eat at Pierhouse Hotel
  • Get passenger ferry to Lismore Island and hire bikes to cycle round island
  • Drive north over Connel Bridge to Port Appin

Day 2

Drive north up over Ballahulish Bridge to Fort William.

Things to see and do

  • Walk around Sutherland Grove Forest by Barcaldine
  • Eat at Loch Leven Seafood Café
  • Enjoy the climbing centre at Kinlochleven
  • Supermarkets at Fort William at roundabout on seafront
  • Neptunes Staircase  is a series of canal locks that link the Caledonian Canal to the open sea and  is well worth a visit.

Day 3/Day 4

Take the A890 towards Wester Ross or take a slight detour north after the bridge round to Plockton which is a really pretty seaside village with palm trees and some great pubs.  You might also want to head slightly south to visit infamous Eilean Donan Castle at Dornie. Continue north to Shieldaig and onto Torridon then head east to Kinlochewe and north up the A832 along Loch Maree and onto Gairloch where there are some great beaches to stop at. 

Things to see and do

  • Visit the colourful town of Portree on Skye
  • Eilean Donan Castle
  • Plockton for lunch at The Plockton Hotel or Plockton Inn
  • Glenelg Brochs – two 2000 year old towers near Glenelg – take Old Military Road to the west of Sheilbridge
  • Strome Castle by Lochcarron
  • Or stop at Kishorn Seafood at Strathcarron
  • Visit Inverewe Gardens – a lush, sub-tropical style garden perched on a peninsula at Loch Ewe.  If like gardens then aim to do 2 visits as so much to see over 2 days.  Lovely café
  • Russian artic convoy museum at Altbea
  •  WW2 North Atlantic convoy sites on Loch Ewe
  • Solas Gallery – Gairloch

Continue round the coast to Dundonnell and onto the A835 to Ullapool for some lively music, great pubs and fantastic fish and chips!

Day 6

Continue south to Inverness and then take the A9 south to Calvine and head west to Kinloch Rannoch

Things to see and do     

  • Take a detour round Inverness to the east and visit the National Trust exhibition showing the Culloden Battlefield and walk across the atmospheric battlefield
  • Stop at Aviemore for lunch at Mountain Café
  • Head into Rothiemurchus Estate and walk around Loch An Eilien
  • Take a ride up the Vernacular up to Aviemore ski centre and have lunch at top and walk down
  • Blair Athol Castle and Distillery
  • House of Bruar for clothes shopping and tasty food to cook up in camper

Day 7

Continue south either heading through Aberfeldy and down along Loch Tay to Killin and down past Loch Lubnaig and Callendar then Aberfoyle or heading back onto the A9 past Loch Tummel and down to Dunkeld

  • Enjoy pretty village of Dunkeld (often folk music in pubs )
  • Walk along the river by Dunkeld and watch the salmon fishermen
  • Loch of Lowes Nature Reserve
