4 Night Tour of the East Coast taking in Castles, Hiking, Towns and Pubs

Travel through the mountains and around the coast over a long weekend in a VW Campervan!


Day 1

From Four Seasons Campers head east towards Stirling before taking the A9 north through Perth to Dunkeld and camp at Invermill Farm Caravan Park in Dunkeld.  The Loch of the Lowes offers amazing wildlife- keep your eyes peeled!

Things to do      

  • Visit Stirling Castle
  • Visit Dunblane Cathedral
  • Walk along the river at Dunkeld and watch the fishermen
  • Walk around the beautiful Hermitage Glen and see its waterfalls https://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/perthshire/hermitage.shtml
  • Visit the nature centre at The Loch of the Lowes
  • Lots of nice pubs in Dunkeld and often folk music events on either in the pubs or the Birnam Arts Centre

Day 2

Head east to Blairgowrie then north up the A93 past the Spittal of Glenshee and through the Cairngorm National Park to Braemar.  There are great walks to the east of Braemar or you can continue towards Crathie and Balmoral Castles and the pretty Deeside villages of Banchory and Ballater for walks by the river and nice restaurants and pubs.

Day 3

Drive from Braemar/ Ballater along Royal Deeside to Stonehaven and then head north along the coastal route to Elgin then Findhorn

Braemar to Aberdeen 1 hour 30 mins/ Ballater to Aberdeen 1 hour 10 mins

Aberdeen to Nairn 2 hours 10 mins

Day 4

From Nairn head west across to Inverness and then south to Culloden. From there head north again to Inverness to head down the A82 past the Caledonian Canal and down through Fort Augustus. Continue on to Fort William, then Glencoe and Glen Etive

Things to do

  • Visit the National Trust Culloden Battlefield just south of Inverness
  • Visit Urquahart Castle on Loch Ness
  • Watch the Scandinavian yachts pass through the locks at Fort Augustus
  • Eat at The Bridge of Orchy Hotel
    • Stop at Loch Leven Seafood Café Stop https://www.lochlevenseafoodcafe.co.uk/ for seafood (highly recommended by other customers!)   by Ballahulish Bridge for amazing oysters, scallops and langoustines
    • Walk along part of the West Highland Way at Bridge of Orchy
    • Eat at the Clachaig Inn by Glencoe
    • Walk partly up one of the Etive hills from either Glencoe or Glen Etive and watch the sunset in the west
