7 Night Tour – Loch Awe, Oban, Mull, Glencoe, Loch Lomond

Day 1

From Four Seasons Campers head north on the A82 to Tarbet on Loch Lomond then head west along the A83 over ‘the rest and be thankful’, through Inverary and then north on A819 to Loch Awe

Day 2

From Loch Awe head back south to Inverary then west towards Lochgilphead and detour round to Crinan then head through Kilmartin Glen (home to ancient kings of Scotland) and up to Oban

2 hours 15 mins

Day 3

Take ferry from Oban to Craignure on Mull.  Head south to the south of the island

 Things to see and do:                   

  • Duart Castle
  • Visit Iona by passenger  ferry.
  • MacCullochs Fossil Tree
  • Standing stones at Loch Buie
  • Take a boat from Fionport to Staff Islands and see the spectacular Fingal’s cave

Day 4

Enjoy Mull!

Things to see and do                     

  • Look out for Sea Eagles and Eagles on Mull
  • Calgary Beach in north of Mull
  • Visit Mishnish for food in Tobermory and enjoy pretty harbour village
  • Nice walks above Tobermory – loop back round – good for bikes
  • Duart Castle
  • Langamull Beach Dervaig

Camping

Aros Park in Tobermory – there are toilets and lovely showers (£2).

Day 5

From Tobermory take ferry over to Kilchoan and head north west to visit Sanna Bay(one of my favourite beaches in Scotland)  then head towards Acharacle, through Glen Uig and onto A830 near Lochailort and head north towards Arisaig. 

Things to see and do

  • Sanna Bay – stunning white sand beach – lovely for children to paddle in
  • The famous “Hogwarts Express” line from the Harry Potter books Jacobite Steam Train runs from Fort William to Mallaig if you fancy a trip on a steam train or you can just watch it come in and out some of the stations along the route.
  • Glenfinnan Monument erected in memory of Jacobite rising and men who fought for Prince Charlie’s cause and the Glenfinnan Viaduct – a great engineering construction
  • Beautiful white beaches with shallow clear water to paddle or swim in if brave enough!

Day 6

Travel south to Fort William and onto the A82 then head south to Glencoe.  If you want you can travel along north side of Loch Leven to Kinlochleven and stop at the wonderful Loch Leven Seafood Café but this is a longer route and takes 3 hours from Arisaig to Glencoe going this way

Things to see and do     

  • Neptunes Staircase is a series of canal locks that link the Caledonian Canal to the open sea and  is well worth a visit.   At this time of year you should spot some beautiful Scandinavian yachts coming through the canal on their way to the beautiful West Coast and Inner Hebrides.
  • Glencoe Visitor Centre
  • Stop at Loch Leven Seafood Café Stop https://www.lochlevenseafoodcafe.co.uk/ for seafood (highly recommended by other customers!)  by Ballahulish Bridge

Day 7

Take the A82 back to east side of Loch Lomond

Things to see and do

  • Falls of Falloch – waterfalls at north end of Loch Lomond
  • Take a boat around Loch Lomond
  • Visit the ‘Maid of the Loch’ an old steamboat that is based at Loch Lomond Shores in Balloch
  • Climb Conich Hill at Balmaha or alternatively stop at Gartocharn and climb up Duncryne Hill for lovely views over loch Lomond – Duncryne is called ‘the dumpling’ locally and very easy for young children
