Day 1
Head up the west side of Loch Lomond on the A82 to Tarbertthen head west along the A83 over ‘the rest and be thankful’, through Inverary then north on A819 towards Kilchurn Castle at Loch Awe. Continue on to Oban Camping and Caravanning Club site at Barcaldine by Connel bridge which is just 20 mins from Oban.

Day 2
Head north back to Oban where the Caledonian Macbrayne ferries leave for Mull. The campervan is charged as a car so it is not expensive- it is 4.9m for booking. Book in advance.
Things to see and do
- Mccaigs Folly in Oban which overlooks the town and a busy high street plus watch the ferries and yachts coming and going.
- You are likely to see Porpoise from the ferry
- Look out for Sea Eagles and Eagles on Mull
- Take a boat trip over to Staff Island and see the spectacular Fingals Cave
- Visit the island of Iona and enjoy the Abbey and the beaches
- Eat at The Creel Seafood Bar at Fionnphort
- Village of Dervaig in north
- Eat at Am Berlinn, Dervaig, Mull
- Tobermory is a very cute little fishing village with nice pubs…. The Mishnish is a well-known yachting stop with live music. There are some nice walks over the hill from Tobermory which loop round and back down.

Day 3
Drive east to the port of Tobermory and get the ferry over to the Ardnamurchan Peninsular at Kilchoan and head north west to visit Sanna Bay(one of my favourite beaches in Scotland) – gorgeous white sand with rock pools that are great for kids. Next head towards Acharacle, through Glen Uig and onto A830 near Lochailort and head north towards Arisaig.
Things to do
- Visit Sanna Bay white beaches on the west coast of Arnamurchan near Kilchoan
- Look out for wildlife along the banks of Loch Sunart – we saw wild otters along here once
- The famous “Hogwarts Express” line from the Harry Potter books Jacobite Steam Train runs from Fort William to Mallaig if you fancy a trip on a steam train or you can just watch it come in and out some of the stations along the route.
- Beautiful white beaches at Arisaig with shallow clear water to paddle or swim in if brave enough!
- Glenfinnan and the Glenfinnan monument which sits at the head of Loch Sheil and was built as a monument to the final uprising by Bonnie Prince Charlie and the Jacobites rising.

Day 4
From Arisaig continue onto the fishing port of Mallaig where you can get the ferry to Skye. The campervan is charged as a car so it is not expensive- it is 4.9m for booking. During Summer season book in advance or be prepared to wait a few hours (there are restaurants in Mallaig where you can wait and wander around the harbour area). The Caledonian MacBrayne ferry Skye takes you to Armadale. Head to the north coast of Skye

- For fine dining eat at The Three Chimneys or Claire Macdonalds Kinloch Lodge on south side of island

Day 5
Head north to Uig for the ferry to Tarbert on Harris. Uig (Skye) to Tarbert on Harris ferry time of 1 hour 40 mins. Drive south west to the beautiful Niseaboist beach with stunning views across the Sound of Taransa.

Travel north around the west coast to Hushinish

Meander north through Tarbert into Lewis and head west through Achmore and Kinlochroag then north to Kneep to the stunning beaches beside Traigh na Beirigh campsite.

Day 7
Take the ferry from Stornoway to Ullapool and explore the North West Highlands for next 2 days. From Ullapool head north towards Lochinver, past Ardvreck Castle at Loch Assynt and continue to Lochinver and Achmelvich. Take detour over to Achiltibuie which overlooks the summer isles
Things to see and do:
- Enjoy fish and chips at award winning chip shop
- Ardmair Point and Lighthouse north of Ullapool for walk
- Stac Pollaidh for small mountainous hill walk (great for kids) with stunning views over Inverpolly
- Stop at Knockan Crag National Nature reserve between Ullapool and Achmelvic to view the rock formations – this is part of the North West Geopark rock route showing the story of how Scotland was formed
- Stop at Ardvreck Castle on shores of Loch Assynt and wander around the ruins
- You have to try the Lochinver pies from the range of over 30 pies at Lochinver Larder – sit in or take away
- Walk over from Achmelvic to Lochinver (approx. 5 miles easy walk around coast)
- Visit Lochinver Pottery either at Lochinver or Ullapool (the Ullapool shop is slightly larger)
- Visit Achmelvic beautiful white beaches and have a swim in the shallow water
- Walk cliff tops at Stoer Lighthouse north of Clachtoll

Day 8
Drive south east down the A837 to Bonar Bridge and then continue east to A9. Travel south on A9 over the Cromarty Bridge and then east over to Rosemarkie at Fortrose

Drive south from Fortrose to Inverness then down to Culloden on south east of Inverness then head down the A82 down Loch Ness and Loch Lochy to Fort William and continue down to Glencoe on A82.

- Loch Ness – Loch Ness Monster exhibits at Drumnadrochit
