Best places to eat seafood in Scotland

scallops in pastry shell for the best seafood places in Scotland on campervan tour

Loch Fyne Oyster Bar

If you are passing Loch Fyne Oyster Bar, I highly recommend a sit in or outdoor lunch (if the sun is shining). With starters between £9.50 and £15.50 and mains between £19.50 and £54 this isn’t the cheapest of lunches, however the quality is outstanding!

If you haven’t time to take in a leisurely lunch then there are a couple of more affordable options.

A small takeaway menu has options such as soup, haddock and chips and fresh oysters, or you can nip into their adjoining garden centre cafe for some coffee and cake, paninis or soup to go.

Alternatively why not load up your campervan fridge with some smoked fish , fresh oysters, fresh fruit , wine, beer and other essentials from the deli located inbetween the restaurant and the garden centre and grab a delicious smoked salmon bagel to eat on the road!

Loch Leven Seafood Cafe

Nestled on the north shore of Loch Leven across the Loch from the well known village of Glencoe sits one of our all time favourites, Loch Leven Seafood cafe.

The relaxed informal atmosphere makes this the perfect stop for a road trip lunch

With their own fishing fleet as well, you know that you are getting the freshest of seafood with their catch being dispatched across the world to Asia, Europe and the rest of the UK

The menu includes Loch Linnie Langoustines, diver harvested scallops, loh leven missels, clams, lobster and crab with Daily specials of soups, cassoulets and fish.

I have to say their Cullen Skink was one of the best I’ve ever had as was the lemon sole on the day I visited

With outdoor tables for the warmer days, this really is a brilliant stop on your campervan tour!

Glenelg Inn,

A little bit further up the west coast is our all time favourite Inn in Scotland, Glenelg Inn!! Known to locals and those in the know, this hidden gem is not far off the main tourist routes, located south of the Skye bridge on the mainland with incredible views over Skye!

I love this place in all seasons, whether it’s high summer and you eat outside overlooking the sea with views out to Skye, or in the colder months where you can cosy up by their fire which is always burning – every day of the year to give the warmest of welcomes.

On the menu is a wide selection of both seafood and meat and vegitarian dishes with a great selection of deserts and Scottish cheeses. It’s one of those menus that you just want to eat everything on it!! My favourites are their venison, their langoustines and their sticky toffee pudding!

Lunch is served from 12-2.30 with Dinner from 6-8.30 and it is essential to book given the popularity of this place.

Edinbane Inn, Isle of Skye

Located in the north west of Skye, the Edinbane Inn offers a great mixed menu between 5-30 and 8-30 with the bar open until 11pm.

With starters such as Hebridean mussels and squid in tempura batter there is a wide variety of food options for all tastes

Whilst not being solely (no pun intended!) focused on seafood, it makes my list because of the great ambiance of the place (again no pun intended!) with live music a regular feature in the summer months.

It’s also super close to the Caravan and Camping Club Campsite for you to rest up and walk down to the Inn after a couple of glasses of wine and wee dram to see you on your way.

Kylesku Hotel, Sutherland

This award winning restaurant and bar on the popular NC500 route is an absolute must stop for all road trippers! Overlooking beautiful Loch Glendhu and the fantastical engineering feat that is the Kylesku Bridge, the Kylesku Hotel

Sustainability is a high priority here and with a passion for seafood, you’ll enjoy rope-grown mussels from Loch Glendhu and Loch Glencoul, hand-dived scallops from local coastal areas, and Scottish seafish landed at both Kinlochbervie and Scrabster.

With a wide selection of dishes available, you can’t beat the Kylesku Cold Fruits de Mer Platter!

What’s even better is that the bar is dog friendly so you can bring your favourite friend in with you for a leisurely lunch!

As much as we love being on the road and the comforts of our VW California Campervans, it is sometimes nice to stop and have a hotel night whilst on the road and this place is a firm favourite with our campers to stay for the night in one of their simply styled and comfortable rooms.

The Seafood Shack, Ullapool

A pop up seafood bar in the pretty north west coastasl fishing port of Ullapool, the Seafood Shack has a great wee range of lunchtime seafood options with fish landing daily less than 200m from the shack

With huge tented covers protecting diners from rain and sun (it actually is a wee sun trap there!), the shack has bags of atmosphere and overlooks the ferry terminal and port in this pretty little town.

Open 7 days a week between 12 and 6pm the Seafood Shack is a great option for alfresco afternoon dining or you can buy takeaway and either sit in your campervan overlooking Loch Broom or take on your ferry to the Outer Hebrides.

I can highly recommend the cullen skink – totally delicious with a big chunk of bread on the side. However the real winner here amongst old favourites such as langoustines and scallops was the Tempura Haddock wrap!

Grandtully Hotel, Perthshire

This place is a big favourite of mine! Nestled on the banks of the River Tay with an outdoor paved garden to the front with large patio heaters on , I spotted this place on a campervan tour not long after restrictions were lifted in 2021.

As part of the Ballintaggart group, the Grandtullly Hotel is only part of the company who also own a farm and a cook school as well as offering catering.

There are several options on where to eat with theTully bar my preference unless its a dry day and then the outdoor patio is a great place to watch the world go by and the kayakers on the Tay perform in the rapids

The excellent wine menu is matched by the seriously well present and delicious food on offer. The menu changes frequently with a mix of seafood, meats and platters on their seasonal market menu. My favourite on one of our visits was the scallops in a pastry shell which opened in a cloud of smoke!

There is also the option for the Vegan, Vegitarian or normal Tasting Menu or Set Menu in their restaurant if you fancy really treating yourselves!

And for our campers, it’s a two minute walk home to the Grandtully Station campsite behind the Hotel who will give our campervans 10% off!
